7 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the man who was touted to be the one stop solution for India to attain the so called “Vikas”, the “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” campaign can be dubbed as the Indian version of MAGA(Make America Great Again). So has Mr. Narendra Modi, brought about the development that he had promised to bring? Let’s peruse the facts that are available to us publicly in detail.

  • Human Freedom Index:

Released annually by the CATO institute, an American libertarian think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C. Cato is number 15 in the “Top Think Tanks Worldwide” and number 10 in the “Top Think Tanks in the United States”. The first available index is for the year 2016. The index basically is calculated using 76 “distinct indicators of personal and economic freedom” in areas such as rule of law, security and safety, religion, legal system and property rights, and access to sound money.

India was given a rank of 87/159 in 2016, considering the various parameters as given in the image above. Since then India has plummeted 24 ranks and is now ranked 111/162.

(The complete HFI document is available in https://www.cato.org/human-freedom-index/2020 for download.)

  • World Press Freedom Index:

India ranks 142/180 in the latest rankings that were released in 2021. (The rankings are available in https://rsf.org/en/ranking/2021)

In 2016, India ranked 133rd and has steadily climbed down since. The World Press Freedom Index measures the freedom and liberty accorded to journalists in a country to report news. (the index been engaged with details in a separate article.)

  • Sustainable Development Report:

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. There are 17 goals, and a report is released annually with rankings based on the performance.

In 2016, India was ranked 110 and Bangladesh was ranked 118 among 149 nations.(The SDG rankings are available in : https://dashboards.sdgindex.org/rankings)

While Bangladesh has risen 9 places dramatically to 109. While India has plummeted to 117, below Bangladesh.

  • GDP growth:

In the economic front too, the performance of our country is very dismal. A plummeting trend can be seen in terms of GDP growth as well according to the data published by the world bank. (The data can be obtained from https://databank.worldbank.org/reports.aspx?source=2&series=NY.GDP.MKTP.KD.ZG&country=IND)

The figures above paint a clear picture the dire state our economy is in. The GDP growth which steadily raising until 2016, was shot down by our honorable PM through his so called master stroke “Demonetization”. The economy was in fact taken to the cleaners, and our GDP growth pre pandemic was even below Bangladesh.

The plummeting graphs of the GDP growth rate, shown above explains how bad our economy is bleeding. At 2015, the growth rate which was at 7.9 % has since steadily decreased. The growth rate at 2019 ( pre — pandemic) was a meagre 4.18 %

The hard-hitting truth:

While Mr.Modi continues to maintain his fanfare with empty rhetoric, rumor monging, blasphemous lies and by deriding the opposition parties, all what the brand Modi has managed to achieve in India, is a comprehensive failure along all sectors. The key indicators of an unconfined nation with a sound economy are consistently on a free fall. Some of the schemes which were implemented when the congress led UPA(United Progressive Alliance) were in power, like the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is what saving India today from a complete economic breakdown.

Below are the excerpts from the “SDG INDIA INDEX & DASHBOARD (2019–20) “ released by the NITI Aayog

Such is our Prime Minister that he has called out MGNREGA scheme to be a ”living monument of UPA’s failure”. To put it in a nutshell, our prime minister has deprived our economy of the oxygen it needs like he has deprived oxygen to covid patients by monumental mismanagement.

Ending this article in a satirical tone with an analysis done on character traits, by the economist magazine:

Well, I wouldn’t have second thoughts about this list!!!! and now its for you to decide who the actual “Anti — Indian” is, and oops special mention to the rising fuel prices, indeed a masterstroke.
